A woman who is pregnant with an unplanned pregnancy has 3 options:
Only the woman can decide what the best is for her. Getting information on all 3 options will help her decide, based on her principles and beliefs. Most women choose to talk to someone. You may talk to your partner or a trusted person. Choose a supportive person, who can support you in making your decision for yourself.
- Adoption – this means carrying the baby for full term, and then handing over the baby to adoptive parents. It is important that this is done legally, to ensure the baby has documentation, and give her the best opportunity in life.
- Parenting- carrying the baby for full term and then continuing to take care of the baby as the biological parent. The parents of the baby may or may not decide to get married.
- Safe abortion – can be performed by a registered medical practitioner only, under these 3 conditions
- To save the life of the pregnant mother
- To preserve her physical health
- To preserve her mental health
