Gender does not limit you!
Does gender plays an important role in our world? Unfortunately in certain countries they do. They still practices gender inequality. An individual are being treated unequally based on their gender. Gender inequality creates disadvantages to women. In some countries, women have limited access to education, career opportunities, services and politics. Women are expected to be at home, taking care of the family as it is their ‘nature’ to do so. The outcome of this; women become uneducated, poor and has to rely on men to survive.
In Malaysia, gender does not limit us. However, women have to strive more to get into higher ranking jobs and decision-making positions than men. Hence, we are still improving on gender equality. Women are encouraged to get involved in politics and higher ranking jobs. Ultimately, it is important to educate the society to accept and respect women as equals.
We need to promote gender mainstreaming. Gender mainstreaming is a process that gives equal treatment and benefit for women and man in all areas for example; education, job opportunities, services, politics, legislation; and at all levels. Gender mainstreaming is vital for giving human rights and social justice for men and women. The goal is to achieve gender equality.
